Itinerary:

Day 1: Survival & Exploration

  • Survival Skills Workshop in the Countryside: Start the day with a workshop on basic survival skills conducted in the rural outskirts of Hoi An. This could include lessons on identifying edible plants, basic orienteering using maps and compasses, and how to use natural resources to create shelter and find clean water. This activity not only teaches valuable skills but also deepens an appreciation for the natural environment.
  • Orienteering Challenge: Host an orienteering challenge where participants use maps and compasses to navigate through a designated natural area. This activity tests navigation skills and encourages teamwork, as participants must work together to find checkpoints or complete tasks within a time limit. It’s a fun and active way to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in an outdoor setting.
  • Night Navigation Exercise: Wrap up the day with a night navigation exercise. Equip teams with flashlights and have them navigate a simple course using the stars or handheld compasses. This activity not only teaches how to adapt to different environments but also enhances participants’ confidence in their navigation and observation skills under more challenging conditions.

Day 2: Water & Agriculture

  • Water Quality Testing in Agricultural Runoff: Engage students in a scientific study by collecting water samples from agricultural runoff areas and testing for various indicators such as pH, nitrate levels, and phosphorus. This can be done using simple water testing kits. The activity could include a comparison of runoff from conventional farming sites versus organic or sustainable farming sites. This helps students understand the impact of different farming practices on water quality and ecosystem health.
  • Agricultural Field Trip: Conclude the day with a field trip to a local farm that practices sustainable agriculture. Allow participants to interact with farmers, and learn about crop rotation, soil health, and pest management practices that don’t rely heavily on chemicals. Include a planting activity where each participant can sow seeds or transplant seedlings while discussing how these practices affect the local water table and overall farm sustainability.
  • DIY Mini Rainwater Harvesting Model: Create a simple rainwater harvesting system using household materials. Participants can use items like plastic bottles, hoses, and basins to construct a model that captures and stores rainwater. This activity helps illustrate how rainwater can be collected and used for gardening or farming purposes, emphasizing the importance of water conservation in agriculture.

Day 3: Meditation & Departure

  • Sunrise Meditation on An Bang Beach: Begin the day early by heading to An Bang Beach for a guided sunrise meditation session. This activity allows participants to practice mindfulness while listening to the soothing sounds of the ocean waves. The natural beauty of the beach at sunrise provides a perfect, tranquil setting for meditation, helping to clear the mind and center the spirit.
  • Yoga in the Rice Fields: Organize a yoga class in the midst of Hoi An’s picturesque rice fields. This setting offers a unique backdrop, with the expansive green fields enhancing the sense of peace during the session. Yoga poses can be tailored for all ages and experience levels, making this a family-friendly activity that promotes both physical and mental health.
  • Mindful Walking Tour of the Ancient Town: Conduct a mindful walking tour through Hoi An’s Ancient Town. Instead of a typical sightseeing tour, this activity focuses on being present and fully engaged with the environment. Participants are encouraged to notice the details of the architecture, the textures of the buildings, the smells from the local eateries, and the sounds of the bustling market, using all senses to anchor themselves in the moment.
