Phu Quoc is a tropical island paradise, picture the beach of your dreams and you might just find it here! Vietnam’s largest island (48kms long) is home to a bounty of heavenly white-sand beaches that lead to sparkling turquoise waters that are always warm (average daily temperatures rarely fall below 25degrees). Snuggled into the Gulf of Thailand, the island is actually closer to Cambodia than Vietnam, but easily reached via plane or ferry from either country.
Other than the strip of resorts along Long Beach, the island is still blissfully undeveloped, so travel away from this area and you are likely to be able to find deserted stretches of beach. If simply lazing beachside, indulging in a massage or two and dining on super-fresh seafood is not enough to keep you entertained, you’ll be glad to know that there’s plenty of adventure to be had. Tropical jungle covers much of the island, which includes the 31,422 hectare Phu Quoc National Park; much of this wilderness, along with the quiet roads and trails of the island is ripe for exploration by foot, bicycle or motorbike. The clear warm waters surrounding the island are perfect for over and underwater adventure including boat trips, fishing, kayaking diving, snorkeling, and a variety of watersports.
Not surprisingly for a tropical island, some ultra-fresh and sumptuous seafood can be sampled on Phu Quoc and it’s also famed for producing high-quality fish sauce and black pepper.
The island is also home to a rather rare and special breed of dog, the Phu Quoc Ridgeback, a hunting dog with a curly tail and more uniquely a blue tongue!
