Discover Vietnam’s long history of silk making on this half-day tour in Hoi An. Explore a silk village to watch and learn every step of the fascinating process, from silkworm-cocoon to stunning silk garments.
Upon arriving at the silk village, you can relax and enjoy a welcome drink. In this place, you will be able to see directly the artisans spinning, weaving silk with tools by manual weaving techniques of the ancient Champa people in Dai Viet era. Not only your own hands will experience each stage from picking mulberry leaves to silkworms and harvesting cocoons, but also will you be able to watch the workers use techniques to release silk. After a preliminary study of how to silk-weaving, we visit the Ma Chau Craft Village, which has a hundred-year history to learn more about the work of silk weaving.
Ma Chau Silk Village is located in Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province, famous for growing mulberries, silk germination and silk weaving. Earlier, in the 15th century, the Ma Chau silk weaving village was responsible for providing weaved silk to the royal officials. By the end of the 19th century, this village had more jobs in cotton and fabric weaving. Everyone got to know how to apply industrial and production machinery to increase the productivity.
